Being logged in with a read-only investor password, market timing, or account configuration limits can prevent trade execution. In addition, attempting to trade greyed-out reference symbols without the symbol suffix will result in order placement failures.
Before you trade: Understand symbol suffixes and reference rates
Selecting the correct instrument suffix for your specific account type is required to place market orders.
Non-tradable reference symbols: Symbols without a suffix appear greyed out in the Market Watch panel and exist solely as reference rates for calculating currency conversions on index products; they cannot be traded directly.
Tradable account suffixes: To trade Forex pairs, Gold, Silver, and Oil, you must select symbols that include a suffix matching your specific account tier:
Standard STP accounts: Symbols ending in
-STD(e.g.,EURUSD-STD,AUDCAD-STD,XAUUSD-STD)RAW ECN accounts: Symbols ending in
-ECN(e.g.,EURUSD-ECN,AUDCAD-ECN,XAUUSD-ECN)VIP STP accounts: Symbols ending in
-VIP(e.g.,EURUSD-VIP,XAUUSD-VIP)
Products without suffixes: Other instruments, such as commodities, shares, and indices, do not carry account-tier suffixes and can be identified and traded by their standard ticker names.

What if you still cannot execute trades?
Review these scenario solutions to identify account permissions, margin limits, or market schedules.
Read-only investor password used: If the "New Order" button is greyed out or inactive, you are logged in using an investor (read-only) password rather than your master trading password; log out and re-authenticate using your master trading password.
PAMM investor account structure: Investor sub-accounts under PAMM configurations are managed centrally by the designated money manager and cannot execute manual trades independently.
Market closed or holiday schedules: Attempting to execute trades outside standard market hours, over weekends, or during public market holidays will be rejected; check specific trading hours by right-clicking the symbol in the Market Watch panel and selecting Specification.
Identity verification (POI) not completed review: Your account identity verification is incomplete or undergoing review, temporarily restricting trade execution permissions.
Insufficient free margin: Your account balance or available free margin is insufficient to cover the required margin for your chosen lot size; reduce your trade volume or deposit funds to increase margin capacity.
VT Markets symbols not displaying at all: If no symbols appear, verify that your MT4/MT5 terminal is actively connected to the server and not showing "No connection" or "Invalid account".
