Calculate the Spread If No Separate Value Is Displayed
Subtract the Bid price from the Ask price:
Spread = Ask Price − Bid Price
For example, if EUR/USD has a Bid price of 1.10250 and an Ask price of 1.10262:
1.10262 − 1.10250 = 0.00012, or 1.2 pips
Check Whether the Display Uses Points or Pips
MetaTrader generally displays the spread in points.
For five-decimal EUR/USD quotes:
10 points = 1 pip
12 points = 1.2 pips
Price precision and spread units differ between products. Check the relevant product specification before comparing values.
Understand Why the Spread May Change Before Execution
The displayed spread reflects the quote available when you check it. It may change before your order is filled because of changes in market conditions or liquidity.
Spreads may widen during high volatility or reduced liquidity.
Advertised starting spreads and historical averages are not guaranteed execution spreads.
The applicable spread is based on the prices available when your order is executed.
Before placing a trade, review the live spread, intended lot size, applicable commission, and other charges. Ensure you have sufficient funds for the margin requirement and trading costs.
Risk Warning
Trading Contracts for Difference ("CFDs") and other leveraged financial derivatives involve a high degree of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. Leverage can magnify both gains and losses, and you may lose all of your invested capital. You should ensure that you fully understand the risks involved before trading.
