VT Markets provides negative balance protection for trading accounts to safeguard clients during extreme market conditions. When high market volatility, sudden price gaps, or stop-outs cause your account equity to drop below zero, our negative balance protection policy ensures that your trading account balance is restored to zero.
Important information before resetting your balance
Review mandatory trade status requirements and bonus conditions before initiating a balance reset.
All active trades must be closed: The system cannot process an automated or manual balance reset while open positions or pending orders remain on the account; all trades must be fully closed first.
Credit bonus adjustments: If your account holds an active promotional credit bonus, completing a balance reset may result in the bonus being partially or fully removed in accordance with campaign terms.
PAMM account exclusions: PAMM accounts operate under dedicated institutional terms and are not eligible for self-service balance resets via the portal.
Wait for full reset before depositing: To avoid incoming deposit funds being used to offset an existing deficit, always confirm that your balance reflects 0.00 before submitting a new deposit.
How Negative Balance Protection Works (Automatic vs. Manual)
Understand how automated system sweeps and manual self-service tools restore your balance to zero.
-
Reset negative balance by automated system:
An automated system sweep runs continuously across all trading accounts every 3 minutes.
When triggered, any qualified negative account balance is automatically cleared back to zero.
-
Reset negative balance by manual self-service in the Client Portal:
If the automated sweep is delayed and your trading account balance remains negative for more than 1 hour, a manual self-service reset feature is unlocked in your portal.
-
Steps to execute a manual reset:
Log in to the VT Markets Client Portal.
Navigate to the Accounts section.
Locate the affected MT4 or MT5 account card.
Click the Settings (gear) icon and select Reset balance to immediately clear the deficit.
What if the negative balance is not resetting?
Follow these checks if the automated reset is delayed or the manual button remains unavailable.
The "Reset balance" option does not appear after 1 hour in the Client Portal: Ensure all open trades and pending orders are completely closed, refresh your browser page to reload account state, and confirm the account is not an excluded PAMM account.
Automated system sweep delays: Extreme market-wide volatility events may temporarily delay automated 3-minute sweeps due to queue processing loads; use the manual reset button once the 1-hour eligibility window elapses.
Accidental deposit during deficit: If a deposit was processed before the balance returned to zero, contact Customer Support immediately with your payment receipt.
