Your trade may have been closed automatically because your account’s margin level reached or fell below the 20.00% stop-out threshold. At this level, the system begins closing open positions because your account has insufficient equity to support the required margin.
When does stop-out happen?
Stop-out is based on your account’s margin level, calculated as:
Margin Level = (Equity ÷ Used Margin) × 100%
Equity: Your account balance plus or minus floating profit or loss.
Used Margin: The margin required to maintain your open positions.
Account margin level
What happens
50.00% — Margin Call
A low-margin warning is triggered. This warning does not automatically close your positions.
20.00% or below — Stop-Out
The system automatically begins closing open positions.
How are positions closed during stop-out?
The system closes positions according to the applicable liquidation process.
Each position is closed at the available market price when executed.
Your margin level is recalculated after each closure.
Closures continue until your margin level rises above 20.00% or no open positions remain.
The stop-out threshold is a margin level, not a guaranteed closing price.
Will all my open positions be closed?
Not necessarily. If closing one or more positions raises your margin level above 20.00%, the remaining positions may stay open.
If your margin level remains at or below 20.00%, further positions may be closed.
Are losses from stop-out reimbursed?
Generally, no. Losses resulting from stop-out closures at available market prices are considered trading losses.
If you believe your position was closed at an incorrect price, contact VT Markets Customer Support for investigation. Reporting an execution concern does not guarantee reimbursement.
Can stop-out affect automated or copied trades?
Yes. Stop-out applies at the account level and may affect:
Positions you open manually.
Positions opened by an Expert Advisor (EA).
Positions copied from a Signal Provider.
These positions contribute to your account’s overall exposure and margin requirements.
Can I change or disable stop-out?
No. The Margin Call and Stop-Out levels are set at the account level. They cannot be changed on request or disabled.
Risk Warning
Trading Contracts for Difference ("CFDs") and other leveraged financial derivatives involve a high degree of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. Leverage can magnify both gains and losses, and you may lose all of your invested capital. You should ensure that you fully understand the risks involved before trading.
